Federal Skilled Worker – Immigration via Express Entry

The Federal Skilled Worker Program (FSWP) is Canada’s leading immigration pathway. Since its establishment in 1967, the FSWP has been the gateway for most economic immigrants to Canada. The program aims to hasten the immigration of internationally skilled workers, thereby supplementing the Canadian labour market. From 2015 onwards, the Canadian Government has processed FSWP applications through the Express Entry online system.

FSWP points system

To qualify for the program, you must accumulate a certain number of points. Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) evaluates each applicant based on a 100-point scale, allocating points across six key areas:

  • Age – 12 points (max.)
  • Education – 25 points (max.)
  • Work experience – 15 points (max.)
  • Proficiency in English and/or French 28 points (max.)
  • An official job offer from a Canadian employer – 10 points (max.)
  • Adaptability factors – 10 points (max.)

To be eligible for the program, applicants are required to score a minimum of 67 out of 100 points. It is crucial to note that the points for the FSWP are calculated differently than those for Express Entry. As such, applicants also need to secure sufficient points in the Express Entry system to receive an invitation to apply for immigration to Canada.
