International Experience Canada
International Experience Canada is a program that allows young people to get a work permit in Canada. This initiative was developed by Canada in collaboration with other countries for international cultural exchange and mobility of young people aged 18 to 30 (18 to 35 years old for Australia). Canada has such agreements with 35 countries and territories. In 2019, Canada issued 136,480 invitations to apply for work permits in Canada under the International Experience Canada program.
International Experience Canada has three categories: Working Holiday, International Co-op (Internship), and Young Professionals. The most popular category of the program is Work Holiday, as this is the only category in which you do not need to have a job offer. To apply in the tow other categories, a job offer is required! However, those job offers are LMIA-exempt.

Like in 2018, 10,700 IEC visas are available for Irish applicants in 2019, but the breakdown of the different visa types has changed slightly. Applicants for visas can begin the process now by creating an online profile on the IRCC website, which will then be submitted to a “pool” of candidates if it meets the requirements. Applicants are drawn randomly from these pools at “regular intervals” and sent an Invitation to Apply for a work permit. Draws continue until all places are filled for the year. In 2018, demand for Working Holiday permits was higher among Irish people than for any of the other countries that have a similar agreement with Canada.
