Nova Scotia invited advertising, marketing, and public relations specialists
On December 20, 2019, Nova Scotia held a new draw in the NSNP. In this round, the province issued 144 Letters of Interest to candidates in the Labour Market Priorities Stream, whose primary occupation is advertising, marketing and public relations (NOC 1123). All invited candidates must provide letters of reference from employers to prove two or more years of experience of full-time or equivalent part-time experience. In addition, all invitees must have a master’s degree and demonstrate the language abilities at a CLB level 9 or higher in English or French in all language abilities. In the previous rounds of the Labour Market Priorities Stream, NSNP targeted social workers, nurses, carpenters, francophones candidates, early childhood educators, and financial auditors and accountants, respectively.
Nova Scotia invited social and community service workers (NOC 4212)
On December 5, 2019, Nova Scotia held a new invitation round in the NSNP. In this round, the province issued Letters of Interest to candidates in the Labour Market Priorities Stream, whose primary occupation is social and community service workers (NOC 4212). All invited candidates must provide letters of reference from employers to prove two or more years of experience of full-time or equivalent part-time experience as a social worker. In addition, all invitees have to demonstrate the language abilities at a CLN level 7 or higher in English or French in all language abilities. In the previous rounds of the Labour Market Priorities Stream, NSNP targeted nurses, carpenters, francophones candidates, early childhood educators, and financial auditors and accountants, respectively.
Nova Scotia invited 20 entrepreneurs in the new round
On November 12, 2019, Nova Scotia invited 20 foreign entrepreneurs to apply for the provincial nomination under the NSNP. The lowest score of this round was 118 points, five points higher than on September 6. In 2019, Nova Scotia has already invited 218 entrepreneurs in seven invitation rounds.
Nova Scotia updated the lists of Designated Employers for AIPP
On October 31, 2019, the list of Nova Scotia employers taking part in the Atlantic Immigration Pilot Program (AIPP) has been updated. The list now contains 1,058 employers that have been designated by the provincial government to participate in the AIPP. Since the last update, Nova Scotia designated twenty new employers. In total, there are 2,318 employers in all four Atlantic provinces who can hire foreign workers in the framework of AIPP. Obtaining a job offer from the designated employer allows foreign nationals to apply for permanent residence in Canada.
Nova Scotia invited nurses in the NSNP
On October 28, 2019, Nova Scotia conducted a new draw in the Labour Market Priorities Stream of the Nova Scotia Nominee Program (NSNP). In this invitation round, the province issued Letters of Interest to 413 Express Entry candidates whose primary occupation is registered nurse or registered psychiatric nurse (NOC 3012). All invited candidates must prove a relevant higher education and have letters of reference from employers to prove three or more years of experience as a nurse. In addition, all invitees have to demonstrate the language abilities at a Canadian Language Benchmark level 8 or higher in English or French in all language abilities.
Nova Scotia invited carpenter candidates
On September 20, 2019, Nova Scotia held an invitation round in the Labour Market Priorities Stream of the Nova Scotia Nominee Program (NSNP). In this round, the province issued Letters of Interest to Express Entry candidates whose primary occupation is a carpenter (NOC 7271). All invited candidates must have letters of reference from employers to prove two or more years of skilled trades experience as a carpenter. Self-employed individuals must provide documentation from 3rd parties indicating the service provided along with payment details. In addition, all invitees have to demonstrate the language abilities at a Canadian Language Benchmark level 5 or higher in English or French in all language abilities.
Nova Scotia invited 47 foreign entrepreneurs on September 6
On September 18, 2019, Nova Scotia published an update about the results of the new draws in the Entrepreneur and the International Graduate Entrepreneur Streams of the Nova Scotia Nominee Program (NSNP). On September 6, 2019, Nova Scotia invited 46 entrepreneurs with the lowest score of 113 points, 3 points higher than on June 24. As for the International Graduate Entrepreneurs, NSNP issued only one invitation to a candidate whose score was 54 points, 20 points lower than in the previous round. In 2019, Nova Scotia has already invited 198 entrepreneurs in six invitation rounds and 3 International Graduate Entrepreneurs in three draws.
Nova Scotia updated the list of Designated Employers
On August 31, Nova Scotia has updated its list of Designated Employers taking part in the Atlantic Immigration Pilot Program (AIPP). The new list contains 1,002 employers. Since April 2019, the province added 49 new employers. In total, as of August 31, 2019, there are 2,264 designated employers in all four Atlantic Provinces that can hire foreign workers through the AIPP.
Nova Scotia launched Labour Market Priorities for Physicians
On September 11, 2019, Nova Scotia launched a new immigration stream within the Nova Scotia Nominee Program (NSNP). The Nova Scotia Labour Market Priorities stream for Physicians is aimed at inviting physicians to apply for the provincial nomination via the Express Entry system. The program will allow candidates which received an approved offer from the Nova Scotia Health Authority or the IWK Health Centre and who receive a Letter of Interest from the Nova Scotia Office of Immigration to apply for the provincial nomination certificate. Two NOCs are eligible for this stream – General practitioners and family physicians (NOC 3112) and Specialist Physicians (NOC 3111).
Nova Scotia invited French-speaking candidates
On September 4, 2019, Nova Scotia held an invitation round in the Labour Market Priorities Stream of the Nova Scotia Nominee Program (NSNP). In this round, the province issued Letters of Interest to 204 Express Entry candidates who have a CLB score of 8 or higher in French in all four bands and a CLB score of 6 or higher in English in all four bands. All invited candidates possess a bachelor’s degree or graduated from an equivalent program of three or more years at a university, college, trade or technical school, or other educational institution. In addition, all invitees have a valid Express Entry profile. All candidates who received a Letter of Interest, should complete the online application form and include all required information and attachments.
The number of immigrants to Nova Scotia continues to rise
On August 9, 2019, the Nova Scotia Office of Immigration released some new data about the immigration to the province. The number of new permanent residents of this Atlantic province is higher than in the same period in 2018. The province admitted 3,393 new residents this year, while in 2018, Nova Scotia welcomed 2,965 immigrants in the same period. In total, last year 5,970 immigrants became new permanent residents of the province and 67% of them immigrated through the streams of the Nova Scotia Nominee Program (NSNP) and the Atlantic Immigration Pilot. The retention rate of the province remains at 71%, which is the highest in the Atlantic region.
Nova Scotia invited new foreign entrepreneurs
On June 24, 2019, Nova Scotia held new draws in the Entrepreneur and the International Graduate Entrepreneur Streams of the Nova Scotia Nominee Program (NSNP). In this round, Nova Scotia invited 43 entrepreneurs and the lowest score was 110 points. As for the International Graduate Entrepreneurs, NSNP issued only one invitation to a candidate whose score was 74 points. In 2019, Nova Scotia has already invited 152 Entrepreneurs in five invitation rounds and 2 International Graduate Entrepreneurs in two draws.
Nova Scotia invited 312 candidates
On June 3, 2019, Nova Scotia held a new round of invitations in the Labour Market Priorities Stream of the Nova Scotia Nominee Program (NSNP). In this round, the province invited 312 Express Entry candidates who have eligible work experience in NOC 4214 Early childhood educators and assistants. All candidates invited in this round created their profiles in the Express Entry pool on or after August 8, 2018.

On May 17, 2019, Nova Scotia held a new draw in the Entrepreneur Stream of the Nova Scotia Nominee Program (NSNP). 27 candidates have been invited in this round and the lowest score was 112 points. The Entrepreneur Stream is designed for experienced business owners or senior business managers who want to launch their business in Nova Scotia. Eligible candidates should have a net worth of at least $600,000 CAD and be able to invest at least $150,000 CAD to establish a business in Nova Scotia. NSNP has already issued 109 invitations via the Entrepreneur Stream in 2019.

The Entrepreneur Stream is designed for experienced business owners or senior business managers who want to launch their business in Nova Scotia. Eligible candidates should have a net worth of at least $600,000 CAD and be able to invest at least $150,000 CAD to establish a business in Nova Scotia. NSNP has already issued 82 invitations via the Entrepreneur Stream in 2019.
Nova Scotia issued invitations in the Labour Market Priorities stream
On March 20, 2019, Nova Scotia issued Letters of Interest to eligible candidates in the Labour Market Priorities Stream of the Nova Scotia Nominee Program (NSNP). Invitations were sent to eligible candidates in the Express Entry pool with min CLB 7 in French and min CLB 5 in English, and with at least a 3-year degree, diploma or certificate.

Eligible candidates should have a net worth of at least $600,000 CAD and be able to invest at least $150,000 CAD to establish a business in Nova Scotia. NSNP has already issued 55 invitations to via the Entrepreneur Stream in 2019.
Nova Scotia welcomed a record number of newcomers in 2018
The government of Nova Scotia published a final number of immigrants who settled in the province last year. A total of 5,970 new permanent residents came to Nova Scotia, exceeding the 2016 record year high of 5,485. The 2018 figure is based on final, year-end federal calculations. More than 65% of the total permanent resident landings were approved through the Nova Scotia Nominee Program (NSNP) and the Atlantic Immigration Pilot Program (AIPP). The retention rate of newcomers in Nova Scotia is 71% and is the highest in the region of Atlantic Canada.
Almost 10% of Nova Scotia’s International graduates stay in the province
Last year the government of Nova Scotia has declared a goal of keeping 10% of international students as permanent residents. As of this moment, the province almost reached its goal. According to a study by One Nova Scotia, 9.4% of international students stayed living in the province. In 2018, Nova Scotia nominated 440 international students. The number of students who complete the immigration process to become permanent residents has also increased, with 210 former international students now living in the province compared to 125 in 2015.
Nova Scotia has updated the list of designated employers under Atlantic Immigration Pilot Program
On January 31, 2019, the list of Nova Scotia employers taking part in the Atlantic Immigration Pilot Program (AIPP) has been updated, and the provincial government is encouraging foreign nationals to get in touch with them. The list contains 764 employers that have been designated by the Government of the Province under the AIPP, which fast-tracks eligible foreign workers and international graduates with a job offer from a designated employer for Canadian permanent residence.
Nova Scotia issued invitations in Labour Market Priorities stream
On January 24, 2019, Nova Scotia Nominee Program (NSNP) issued Letters of Interest to eligible candidates in the Express Entry pool with a CRS score of 400 to 450 points. The invitations were sent to candidates who have more than 5 years of experience in NOC 1111 Financial auditors and accountants.
Nova Scotia invited first candidates in January
On January 7, 2019, Nova Scotia held a draw in its Entrepreneur Stream. 33 candidates have been invited and the lowest score was 112 points. One more candidate was invited via International Graduate Entrepreneur Stream and the score of the candidate was 54 points.
