The OINP Entrepreneur Success Initiative is an immigration program designed by the Ontario Immigrant Nominee Program (OINP) to attract foreign entrepreneurs to Ontario. The program aims to support the growth of innovative and successful businesses in the province.
The Entrepreneur Success Initiative is a two-year pilot program to assist newcomers who aspire to apply to the OINP Entrepreneur Stream. The program aims to help 100 individuals buy or start businesses in Ontario outside of the Greater Toronto Area. By fulfilling the OINP Entrepreneur Stream requirements, candidates can establish themselves as eligible to apply for permanent residency in Canada.
The OINP Entrepreneur Stream entails a set of prerequisites that applicants must meet. These prerequisites include having a net worth of at least $400,000 and investing a minimum of $200,000, including ownership of at least 33% of the business. These requirements must ensure that applicants can invest in and manage a successful business, thus contributing to the provincial economy.
Applying to the OINP Entrepreneur Success Initiative involves a two-step process
The application process for the OINP Entrepreneur Stream is a thorough and multi-stage process designed to ensure that only the most qualified and committed entrepreneurs can participate in the program.
Stage 1
In stage 1, all potential applicants must register an Expression of Interest to the OINP. This is an opportunity for the OINP to know the applicant better and determine if they meet the requirements. If the OINP finds that the applicant is a good fit for the program, the candidate will be invited to submit an online application. The application should include detailed information about the business plan and financial resources. After applying, the applicant must attend a mandatory interview with the OINP to discuss their business plan and answer any questions the OINP may have. If the stage 1 application is successful, the applicant must sign an agreement outlining their commitments to the OINP and the Ontario Government.
Stage 2
In stage 2, the Government of Ontario issues a temporary work permit support letter to candidates to apply for a temporary work permit. Once the entrepreneur has the temporary work permit, they can move to Ontario and begin implementing their business plan. After arriving in Ontario, entrepreneurs have 20 months to implement their business plan and submit a final report to the OINP. This report should outline the progress in implementing their business plan, any challenges they have faced along the way and how they have addressed them. If the business meets all requirements, the entrepreneur becomes eligible for nomination for permanent residence in Ontario.
